When to fertilize mustards and turnips

My mustards are about 3 inches high, turnips not quite that big. When do I need to fertilize them?

According to Dr. Kiki Fontenot, horticultural extension professor, with the LSU AgCenter (wrote a book “Louisiana Urban Gardener”) she says side dress fertilize turnips and mustard 2 weeks after planting, and then again 3 weeks after that. She recommends applying 1 teaspoon a 15% nitrogen fertilizer every 8 to 10 inches down the row. That’s directly from her book.

I have a rotary tiller on my compact tractor. I till up rows for planting. Once I have a well tilled row, I sow 13-13-13 and pelletized lime on top of the row. Afterward I till the fertilizer and lime into the soil with one pass of the tiller. I then sow my turnip/mustard seeds on the prepared rows and that's it. I don't side dress at all with fertilizer.
