What is JP Code for Whole House Generators

Gonna break down and get one this winter. We’re all pretty much on top of each other here, though. Are there any rules for where to place the generator? I looked on JP website but the search function is about as good as the one here....
Also, any recommendations on the brand/kw level? 2,500sf house, no abnormal devices to power that a typical family of 5 would not have.
Thanks in advance....

Don’t know about the JP code but most companies like generac for instance have guidelines as to how far away from a wall, window, fence, etc that the generator must be installed. If not followed I’m sure any warranty issue may be voided.

We are in EBR parish and have an air cooled Generac and it had to be at least 3 ft. from the house and on a concrete slab.

I had a whole house gen. installed a few years back and this is what I learned.
1. Turn on everything you want the generator to power and have someone measure the amps you are using. Use this to size the generator. Usually a dealer or electrician can do this.
2. Generators usually run at either 3600 or 1800 RPM. There are advantages to owning a 1800 RPM generator but they generally cost more up front.
3. If using Natural Gas or Propane to power the generator the KW rating is usually based on propane. For NG you will loose 10-15% capacity.
4. Some manufactures of generators will honor the warranty only if an authorized dealer of theirs does the install and start up procedure.
5. 22KW and below are usually air cooled, above 22kw are water cooled. There are advantages to having a water cooled generator.

I seem to recall EBR is 60” from any fresh air opening (doors, windows, vents), 18” from house, and 36” in front (varies by manufacturer) for service.
A 22kw air cooled will run what you want at that square footage. You may not be able to run two central units, electric oven, electric dryer, microwave, and the rest of your normal stuff all at the same time. A 30kw water cooled is about twice the $$.
I always tell my wife to do all the laundry before a storm hits and tell her to watch running oven and microwave while all the AC units are on - but I am OCD. The smart switches monitor that stuff.
