Haven't done it myself, but I've had friends who posted on LSU Landscape Architecture school bulletin board looking for senior design students wanting to make quick cash.
They're only a year away from charging big bucks and often want the experience....

If you are in Houston some of the nursery’s have designers that will help you design something as long as you purchase plants from them.
