Do some research on “wicking tubs.”
I use 35 and 55 gal plastic drums, cut in half. Helps keep water in the bucket.

I have too much area for raised beds and not enough soil. But I think Iam going to go with that black fabric and make a skirt all around each tomato plant in the ground and keep planting in the ground on in mounds.
