anything plant related is fine for the compost pile. Once you have a garden you can put in some of what you cull from it when heading into the next season and plants are being pulled out. Just make sure to NEVER put anything with mold, mildew, virus or pest issues in your compost pile.
Lots of plants get viral wilt, fungal issues, etc. and that only gives you more issues if you put that in your compost.
I also never put weeds pulled from my garden in my compost pile, but do put grass clippings and leaves all the time.
