Thinking about renting a bobcat to do some clearing/grading

Will it compact the earth and kill my trees if I'm inside the drip line? I had 2 killed when we built but they spread river sand everywhere and pretty sure they went back and forth a lot for a few days. Is there a minimum amount that i can drive over before it starts to stress them? I'd rather do it by other means if it means losing my beloved trees.

You good, baw. Just don't add more than a few inches of fill around the trees.

I won't be adding any fill, it was a wooded lot and the area I want to do has a ton of trash trees, weeds and several huge piles of mulch from stump grinding. So want to grade down to the dirt in many of the areas for grass seed and then clear the rest out to 'de-congest' it of all the trash.

What type of trees? Don’t spread any new material but if roots are exposed inside the drip line it could potentially do damage with running a machine over them

What type and how big of a tree we talking about?

Sounds to me you would do better to hire someone with forestry muncher machine.Clean the ground very nice with minimal damage..If you have lot of saplings a machine with blade is just going to put them down on ground but not remove them.Ones too close to trees you can cut at surface with hand lopper or rent brush cutter if you have too many.

I usually see bobcats like these really screw up the surrounding landscape even by scraping against the trees you're trying to save.

Shallow root systems on the those so I wouldn’t risk it
