I’ve got an issue with my St Aug. Laid this sod back in February. The area between my sidewalk and the street has been a pain in my arse and it is getting worse. This morning I noticed that the corner of my front yard (on the other side of the sidewalk) is starting to do the same thing. I don’t think it is bugs because I don’t see any moths. Grass experts...help!

Chinch bugs, drought stress, or grubs. What is your watering schedule

I don’t really have a water schedule. I live in New Orleans and we have gotten a good amount of rain lately. If it hasn’t rained in a week, I’ll put out the sprinkler. If this is the issue, is it too late to get it to fill in with watering now that we are in fall?

If bugs, what do I treat it with? I’ve looked at the blades and there doesn’t appear to be bite marks.

Thanks guys!

Grubs eat the root system. See if if you can pull back any part of the grass like carpet. Chinch bugs won’t leave bite marks. They suck, not chew. Size of any, white half moon shapes on their wings. Google how to use a coffee can and dish soap to find them.

Thanks! I’ll look out there in the morning. How easy is to get rid of them and will the grass grow back?

Easy to get rid of both. Arena for grubs and Talstar for chinch bugs.

I dug around in the areas where there was damage and looked where it met the healthy grass and didn’t see anything. Does this mean most likely chinch bugs?

I found the chinch bugs. Those guys were much smaller than I anticipated. They were all over. I dropped the Bifenthrin as recommended and it did the trick! Thanks!!

Is there anything I can do now to fix the damaged portions or do I just wait until spring for it to fill back in?

Chinch bugs are fast, small, and do not like to be disturbed. The minute you start moving the grass they dive down into the thatch layer. All you can do now is wait. If you haven't put a pre em down yet then I wouldn't. Let your lawn be until the spring. Some might come back and some might need to be replaced.
