I’m in the middle of this upgrade myself. I was using a champion 4000kw generator with natural gas conversion and back feeding through a dryer plug. This couldn’t run the central air though, 3 ton and 4 ton units. I just bought harbor freights new 9500 inverter quiet generator and installed a proper plug in with interlock on my main panel. I tested with new generator and could run house and 3 ton unit on gasoline but noticed the overload light blinked on the generator. Didn’t trip anything but I wouldn’t want to run it like that for an extended period of time. So I ordered the soft start from micro air after watching plenty of videos. Anyone whose interested there are plenty of videos on YouTube. I also ordered the natural gas conversion kit for the new generator from us cabueration. This conversion also loses you some hp so is the other reason I wanted the soft start kit.
