This man knows. Orthene, or anything with Acephate. Its a white powder that smells like vomit.
I just want to say this stuff should come with a huge warning label. Last summer I made the mistake of using a bit around our pool and flower beds close by. The stench was absolutely revolting and ruined my kids birthday pool party 1 week after applying. After 2 weeks I figured I would dillute with water and flooded the area. It just spread the stench. The smell lasted for months if the wind was just right
I now only use Orthene if 30ft+ from common areas. I use gel bait or granules if close to common areas.

To me it kind of smells like rotting cabbage. But I don't find the smell lasts that long. Or maybe I just get used to it and no longer notice. It only kicks up the smell if I hit the area with my mower and create a WMD gas cloud.
It absolutely takes care of the ants, though. And to me that's worth it.

I saw someone recommend termidor a while back. I had a TON of ant nests all over my yard. Tried termidor...sprayed each nest, did not even perimiter spray like they say to do...I have had maybe 4 ant nests pop up since when its usually been around 20-30
