Question about running a waterline to a countertop ice maker.

My ice maker in our fridge has gone out for the 5th time. I’m tired of dealing with it. Would it be possible to pull the fridge out and split the waterline and run it to a counter top ice maker. Wife has been wanting one of those sonic ice makers for a long time now and thought if I could use that water line it would make it even more appealing to drop $600 on one. But wasn’t sure if there was something I was missing. Not sure if you can split that kind of waterline and still use it for water dispenser in the fridge or what?

What kind of under counter ice maker are you picking up for $600?

Ah, I read incorrectly. My mistake.
I don't see why you couldn't split. If you were dispensing the water from the fridge the same time the ice machine happened to be filling its reservoir, you might see some decreased pressure but not a huge deal.

A split should not be a problem.
But that $600 could also go to a new refrigerator.

Countertop icemakers are designed to be filled manually but with a pressurized valve.
They also require a good bit of cleaning.
If you have a chest freezer you can add a basic universal whirlpool ice maker kit to it for less than $65. (Amazon) includes the water valve and icemaker and wiring. I usually recommend this route as those icemakers last forever.

I put a T in the water supply for my fridge and use it to fill the coffee pot. No issues to date.
