I already have to figure something out for the trim since the new floor will be thinner than the old and leave a gap, so I will be working around there anyway at some point.

This will be the easiest part of the job.
Grinder with diamond blade. Have someone use a spray bottle and hit it with a nice stream for dust control.
If using a transition you will be fine just mark a line with straight edge. Mark diamond blade with a sharpie at 1/2” for your depth control.
If no transition and you need a clean line then use alcohol to clean floor and hot glue a strip of hardwood for your line/straight edge. Run diamond blade along that.
Either way this is a 5 or less minute job.

Yeah I found that out. I was just nervous about chipping the tiles I was leaving, but I see now there wasn't much to be concerned about.
Thanks to everyone for the tips, and I guess I will bump again after I finish the painting and everything else and get the new floor down.
