I have the 40V Ryobi one and I've only had it go dead on my 1x. It handles small stuff just fine.

I have this one and it works great for Trees/Shrubs around the house. 2 of my neighbors borrow it as well for their stuff. More durable than a Ryobi I had previously.

Harbor Freight Pole Saw I have this one and I've been happy with it although I wish the bar were longer. If I need it to trim trails or am too far away from power I just use my generator to run it. It's a bit of a pain but most of my use is at the house so it wasn't worth forking out the extra for a battery or gas unit.
Second this.. bought for $79 probably 5 years ago, still works like a champ. Great for around the house and use small generator to do trails at the camp. AND much lighter than the gas units, cause I'm getting old AF

If you don't mind a little exercise, and are not doing a tremendous amount of trimming at a time, manual pole saws work fine. As with anything, you get what you pay for. I use a Corona pole saw, from Lowes, about $80. It cuts amazingly well, it suits me fine. I have used it to trim limbs as big as 4" or so in diameter.

We got the 14' version for $55+ tax. Big downside is that it doesn't have the grips that the 16' has but it did the job for what we needed. It was somewhat of a pain because I want to try and reach higher 4" limbs and not have to try and cut from such a far distance.
After this year we'll either stick with this until it breaks, or get an electric one if the trees produce enough to where it's worth buying.
