You could go as tight as 20’ which is about 100/acre and then cut them down as they start to crowd or start off at 60’ which is 12/acre and have a very reduced output for the first several years

Plant in rows. 40 ft X 40 ft apart from tree to tree(1600 sq ft). 2 acres is 87,120 sq ft. So 87,120/1600 = 54 trees.

A number of recommended varieties for Louisiana are Elliot, Candy, Sumner, Houma, Caddo, Oconee and Melrose, which are more resistant to diseases and are better suited for home landscapes. Plant two different types — Elliot, Candy, Sumner or Melrose with either Houma, Caddo or Oconee are recommended.

Plant 27 Elliot variety and 27 of either Houma, Caddo, or Oconee.

30 trees. You will loose some over time. Start getting 5 gallon buckets for watering the trees. You drill a 1/4" hole at the side bottom. Put next to tree and fill with water. Also look at one of those 150 gallon totes. Rig a 12V pump. Use that to fill the 5 gallon buckets. Doing it that way saves a shite load of time.

Good advice. Also place a rock or some weight in the bucket to keep it from blowing away after it empties.

You need a source for pollination unless you have plenty natives around.
