Google isn't helping me but I ran into a problem this morning.

In my office I have an outlet that is acting up. Plugged into the top with no problem, but when I plugged something into the bottom outlet, the power went out in the room.

Checked the breaker and it wasn't tripped.

When I removed what I plugged in, the power came back on.

What could be the issue here? Recently moved in, and can't find my multimeter to check the outlet but will buy one later today.

Is it connected to another GFCI outlet? Maybe replace the outlet?

Try plugging something else into that same outlet. That would let you know if it's the outlet or the appliance that is causing the outage.

Plugged in my paper shredder and the lights flickered.

You likely have a loose connection on the outlet.

Unscrew the outlet and pull it out to see what's the problem.
