Sense you got it to run.... Just a little.
What I would do is take the air filter cove off and put 1 or 2 tea spoons of gas on the filter and start the engine. I would think doing this a few times and the engine will start running.
If the engine still struggles to keep running, I suggest you go to Walmart and by a spray can of Carberator cleaner in the Auto department. Take off the air filter and spray some in the air intake and pull the rope a couple of times. Repeat this 3 times.
Then put 1 tea spoon of gas in the air filter and see if it runs any better. You may have to do this a couple of time to get the engine to start. Once it starts and keeps running, squirt just a very little of the carburetor cleaner in the air filter. Do this a couple of times to help clean out the carburetor.
Another think I don't remember anyone talking about is the spark plug. I might be good to remove the spark plug and clean the tip with sand paper to remove any carbon deposits. If the spark plug is dirty.... the engine will not run good.
You are close to getting this old machine working again....

So yesterday I got it to run after changing the carburetor and sparkplug. Sparkplug looked burned out and carburetor rusted. Thanks all.
One issue was the noise when I opened the choke. Engine sounded like it was revving too hard and noise was inordinately loud. Do you think it may even out if I run it a bit? I didn't run it long yesterday since it was raining. Perhaps change out the muffler? Thanks again for your help.
