I have 7 okra plants which are producing daily. Has anyone tried to keep okra plants alive over the winter? Cut down to six inches and mulch?

Not possible where I live. Too cold.
But why?

Okra doesn’t tolerate cold weather.
Only thing I have still alive in the heat is okra but the friggin ants are all over it.Never had that problem before, guess it’s the drought.

I have about 50 okra plants in my garden right now that are producing a ton of okra daily. I always pull them by late September so I can get other things in the ground for the fall/winter garden and have never tried to over-winter them.
Since they originated in a tropical environment, I seriously doubt they'd survive much cold weather, but that is only an educated guess on my part.
Hell, they grow fast enough. Just get the seeds in as early in the spring as you can and harvest almost all summer long.

The official world's tallest okra plant was a rare stalk that overwintered in New Orleans - LINK
Right now a patch of 15 red burgundy okra is the only thing thriving in my yard. As soon as it gets to 50F at night I'll cut at the ground leaving the roots in and do a no-till approach to planting fall vegetables. Will see if anything comes back in the spring.
