New Orleans area. Are they dropping yet? Is it realistic to expect something in the 175 sqft range?

Very rarely do construction prices drop, at least in my area, they just stop rising as rapidly. If they do drop, everyone is screwed and it's likely that you will not build if you are worried about costs now. At any point, there is no better time to build than the present.

I agree with this. Everyone told me to wait to build our house. We decided to move forward because my wife has waited forever for us to finally settle down in a location and get the house she wants.

We're so glad we did because our house is finished. We're all moved in. Interest rates went up, and prices have not went down at all for new construction near us. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't cheap, but it probably never will be.
