Have to make sure the old guy still has the strength and dexterity in his hands to handle connecting those pneumatic fittings, plus the hassle of setting up even a small compressor.

Really there is almost no good option for the OP for a nailgun here. Cordless nailguns of suitable size here are all going to be heavier than a pneumatic, the Paslode XP fuel gun is probably the lightest cordless option followed by Milwaukee's M18 framing nailer as long as your running a smaller battery in it. The Paslode is a little more complicated to setup though and still a $400 tool.
