We did a butterfly garden this year for the forst time. Central AL. Ive seen no monarchs but planted several milkweeds. Ive seen swallowtails mainly. Mostly on my lantanas and dianthus. But ive only seen one in the last two weeks.

we were able to hatch one black swallowtail so far, 4 more in cocoons left to go. Today I planted a bunch of Joe Pye weed and I’ve got milkweed in flower. On the lookout for caterpillars on my maypop, pipevine and citrus trees.

Last year it was late summer before we had big numbers of butterflies

I ordered it online a while back. It was a tiny two inch plant. The first year it did nothing, not a leaf. The second year it sent out a few runners and climbed a foot or so, then stopped

this year it finally got going. No flowers at all but it seems to be growing well. No caterpillars on it as of yet
