Microaire Easystart question.

Just a quick confirmation of sorts. The microaire easystart does not have constant power to it and will only run or connect to the app when the condensing unit kicks on, correct?

Ya, I didnt realize the weather was coming through yesterday afternoon. Installed it real quick and tried to fire it up and I guess I had a bad connection. Started raining its arse off, reterminated one of the wires and I guess I was expecting the green led to stay on to show it was working.
Well after getting shocked and rained on and the wife just standing there without AC, I unhooked it and decided to live another day.

Its still "installed" just not connected. Probably take me 5 minutes to get it hooked back up. Just figured you would be able to connect to it with the app and see all the starts even when the unit wasnt running.

I thought the same thing, which would be nice.
I was surprised how easy it was to install. The whole thing went by pretty quick. The toughest part will be figuring out where to mount it. I temp installed it with some zipties on a nearby pvc drain pipe.

I thought that before I installed it too. But I guess it makes sense - if it’s not getting power from the contractor it doesn’t initiate a start sequence and is off.

A coworker of mine installed his in some PVC outdoor enclosures he got from Home Depot. Then ran some flex conduit from there to the condenser. We had to crimp on some connectors and extend the wires from the soft starter but still works just fine.

The app works great via Bluetooth but it only provides data when the unit is running and you have to be in the vicinity of that unit. I have three units and on one each unit. It’s provides good information on the units. Always amazed at how often these cycle on and off.

I could never get connected to my units via the app, even when standing 5' from them...but admittedly, I didn't do any troubleshooting within the app nor try again after the 4th or 5th time.
Is it supposed to be just clicking Connect to EasyStart button within the app once the units are on, being near them, and it should connect? What was I doing wrong?
Thanks!

When the units are running stand within 5-5 ft, press the connect to EasyStart button the select the appropriate micro site unit. The unit id should appear directly under the disconnect button.

And yes the leds on the EasyStart only illuminate when the HVAC is running.
