What’s the best way to get rid of these things?

I went to Cleggs with a cutting from our Texas sage. Guy identified it as mealy bugs, said they are crazy out of control this year.
Pointed me to Ferti-lome Broad Spectrum Insecticide. Follow instructions. They will kill a plant with quickness. But this works. You'll have to keep after as the critters will reinfect after some time.

I’ve used Dawn Dish Soap in water with success. All Seasons Horticultural Spray Oil also works well to smother them. Imidacloprid insecticide as a spray & root drench also works well.
ETA: imidachloprid as a root drench should provide you with long term control but it’s a takes a while to translocate the insecticide throughout the plant so you should still use a contact-spray control them in the interim.
