Lime For Lawn

My neighbor told me to put lime on my St Aug to get it thick and green. I’ve never heard of this, but his lawn is looking pretty good this year. Has anyone ever used this…..I’ll admit I’m an average yard man.

Depends on the pH of your soil. If it’s acidic, lime will help. I use soilkit.com for testing. I have alkaline soil and add sulfur to lower the pH. If you have the same soil as your neighbor, lime will likely help if it helped him.

Your neighbor doesn’t really know any more than you do.
As mentioned, lime is a ph balancer. If he continues to use it because he thinks it is responsible for thicker and greener grass than his ph will soon be too high.
Nitrogen and iron are all you need for thick and green. Oh, and frequent mowing of course.

My dumb neighbor said that too, but I’ve tested the soil it’s mostly clay and pH is high as hell, so needs sulfur instead. In fact probably time for me to add some more
