Second this, gets nasty.
A friend dug a hole and put in like a 50 gallon a small pond tote, put hog panel and wire mesh over it, dropped a small sump pump in the bottom.
The duck water was above that, then he would fill it up with a hose, all the nasty water and poop fell into the sump. Once every few days he’d pump it out, spray it straight into his garden or yard. It’s great fertilizer.
Kept the duck coop cleaner.

Good luck. Coyotes are rough on them. If you had something in pond where they could get upon at night would help. Have to train them by feeding them on the structure in pond.

We've had ducks now for approximately 10 years or so. When we first got them, we built a mobile pen to keep them safe with a little pool in it until about week 12 when we cut them loose in the pond for good. At first, we would find them dead and chewed up on the banks.
After that, I built them a floating duck house and anchored it in the center of my pond. Never found another chewed up carcass, but came into another problem. Ducks put rabbits to shame when "crackin." They make babies like there is no tomorrow. Went from 6 ducks to 60 ducks in a couple of months. Had to start harvesting them because it was out of hand.
Now, I've built a floating duck house that I can pull in to the bank and remove eggs from.
Life is good for me and the ducks.

If you want a more resilient duck that would have a decent chance being left out 24/7, try Muscovy.
If you need any Muscovy ducks, just ride around Metairie Lakefront area. They have taken over the neighborhood
