Maybe duct tape a drink holder on the handlebar to hold the can of starter fluid
Funny you should mention this. I did that very thing to the steering wheel of an old snapper lawnmower just last weekend….but it was not to hold starting fluid!

the final update:
I forgot to mention that when i changed the coil and plug, the deadman handle wire broke when i tried to start it. Another 4 day delay for amazon to deliver a new one.
finally today, i hit it with ether and it cranked and stayed running. i made one cut with it and realized it was set much to low. back to the shop, adjusters are stuck, wd40, hammers and pliers until it's set sorta right.
20 minutes in, it bogged down, quit and would not start. i walked it back to the street and left it, along with another half-assed mower i've been keeping alive. sometimes it's a game just trying to win. at some point, it's no longer fun. that was today.
