The answer to your question entirely depends on your grass type.
Whatcha got?

Also have patches in lawn where grass grows then dies. Horrible look.

What did you feed centipede

The problem with Centipede is that you can’t do much to push it with nitrogen. It won’t respond well.
Get some 15-0-15 and give it another round of fertilizer. Just don’t exceed your annual limit already.
The very best thing you can do is mow often and lower. Think, every five days at 1.5” (never cut off more than 1/3 of the blade).

You won’t find a better channel for centipede than this one:

I would weed with a proper post emergent and feed with any 15-0-15

Best post emergent for centipede grass? Read about different types. Seems to be some that are dangerous for grass. Did I read that wrong? What would you use in my situation?

That part doesn’t matter so much.
I’d be more concerned about the timing of the upcoming rain and mowing.
You don’t want to apply herbicide before a downpour, even with surfactant.
And you don’t want to apply herbicide just before or just after cutting the grass.
Try to time it in the middle.

It all depends on the following:
Size of lawn
Type of fertilzer used (provide NPK numbers like 15-0-15)
How much fertilizer you put down the first time
This is why:

General guideline: A common recommendation is 1 pound of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. annually, applied in 1-3 doses (e.g., 1/3 to 1/2 pound per application in spring and summer).

Here's my basic centipede yard application:
Late Feb/early March - Pre-emerge granules. Lesco 0-0-7 is easy to find at Lowes. Ideally, apply when soil temps are 45-55 degrees. In the Spring you want something with Dithiopyr.
Mid April - Fertilize 15-0-15 granules. You don't want phosphorous with centipede nor do you want high nitrogen.
May (optional) - grub preventer/insecticide granules. I use Bifen L/P but may try Talstar P/L this year.
Late July - Fertilize (same as above)
August - Insecticide (same as above)
Late Sept./early Oct - Pre-emerge (same as above) In the Fall you want something with Prodiamine. I use The Anderson's Barricade. granules. Soil temp target 75 down to 70 degrees.
I spot spray post emerge all year long. Ortho Weed B Gone has always served me fine. MSM Turf is the choice here but pricey.
Be patient for a couple years until your pre emerge applications settle in for you. Just be consistent.
