I am having an issue with my irrigation system where one zone is not coming on. I had them same issue with my previous house and ended up changing out the whole valve. The issue with the house is that I have a six zone sprinkler system but only have three valves and solenoids in the valve box. My previous home had six valves so it was easy to diagnose. I am not an irrigation specialist obviously but if all zones work besides one and two zones are on each valve and solenoid, then why would one zone work and one not?

You got 3 buried somewhere. If one of those is the one not working, you need to hire someone to come find your buried valves. I currently have one zone not working because of this.

That’s what I’m thinking but went all around the house and couldn’t find anything. Going to call a irrigation company tomorrow

1 zone per valve
You have 3 zones
Valves don’t last long.
Question so you have a zone with X amount of sprinkler heads and only 1/2 of them work?
All sprinkler heads should be actuated By the one valve.

See if you have a function available on your irrigation box that allows the solenoids to 'chatter'

It will help to identify the valves. This is assuming the soenoids work, if the zone isn't working it could be a cut wire or broken solenoid.

It is definitely six zones. 1-5 zones work fine with no issues. Zone 6 none of the sprinkler heads pop up. Only reason I caught it is because while taking the trash out I saw water dripping off the curb into the street from where one of the pop heads are in the vicinity of. Ran through all the zones and zone 6 which is where that sprinkler head is located nothing happens. I have to have another three valves buried somewhere as this box doesn’t have a emergency shut off valve or a back flow preventer from what I can tell. There are two sets of wires running from the garage with red, white, yellow (which is not hooked up to anything in the control box), blue and green.

When does it pop up? Valves work by closing when not on I believe, if you have a bad valve in my experience they stay open always so you have multiple valves on at the same time. Now that certainly may not always be the case. The valves also have a rubber seal in them and can get a rock stuck in them that causes them to stay open.

But if zone 6 is coming on when it is supposed to and you see one head working just no pressure, it’s not a bad valve you have a broken line that causing you to not have pressure in the line to make the heads work. You either have a broken head or a cracked pipe or something of that nature.

Many times the valve boxes are next to each other because you run the pipes in the same hole until they split. Chances are if you have 3 missing they are together. Go from your pump or source of water to your first head on the line with the valves that’s missing. Your valves will be somewhere in there.

None of the sprinkler heads on zone 6 pop up when you turn it to that zone on the controller. All other zones operate as they are supposed to. I let that zone run for about 20 minutes last night to look for any water bubbling up in the area of the zone to look for a broken pipe but saw no areas with any obvious leaks. My previous house had the same issue with my zone 2 not coming on and once I replaced the valve and solenoid it worked fine which leads me to believe this is the same problem. I think I know which valve needs to be replaced in the box but now trying to determine where the rest of the valves are located.

The valves have seals that are easy to replace. Easiest thing to do is to switch the solenoids around so you can figure out which physical valve is bad. Determine if it’s a solenoid or the valve. Then get a rubber seal replacement for the valve. Sometimes it’s just a rock or piece of debris and you just remove it and it works.

It’s a lot easier to replace the seal and solenoid then to replace the whole valve.

Have you ever seen them pop up before?

Is it possible that it's drip irrigation? Sounds like it's in the parkway based on your previous post. I know some cities now require parkway to have drip irrigation to reduce run off into the street.

Issue is fixed. I had a company come out and scan for the missing valves and they changed out the guts of the valve. Broken plastic ring was the culprit. They found the “buried” valves that the previous morons who owned my home had covered with weed stop fabric and pine straw. In the front flower bed.
