I need advice on how to insulate a shed. The main concern is two gable vents. My understanding is that the optimal solution would be to build an attic and insulate that but the rafter cross beams (terminology?) are NOT lower than the vents. so id basically have to build a ceiling from scratch which I don't have the time or ability to do.

outside of "optimal" solutions... can I just insulate the roof directly? R19 fiberglass.
Was thinking that with some foam board spanning the rafters (instead of drywall) for some additional insulation. I have a disability as well and am probably no longer capable of lifting drywall like that anyhow.

So can I do that? and then do what with the vents? Just remove them and fill hole?

Not too concerned with aesthetics as this is a camp. Mostly concerned with unknowingly doing something that will destroy my building.

Thanks for any advice!

I'm not 100% sure I'm understanding you but if you're trying to close that in for a camp and keep climate controlled air in I can try to help.

I would frame in a ceiling across the shed with attic access. Insulate the ceiling and walls when they are framed in. An attic is free air, the vents won't bother it but I'm not understanding your comment about the rafter not being lower than the vents.

I appreciate the reply...

The vents would HAVE to be in the attic right? so I would have to install lower cross beams to hang the ceiling from. All of that is definitely not something I want to tackle.

So.. again... optimal solution is probably not going to work for me. Will anything fall apart If I put insulation directly on roof? I guess moisture is the concern, correct? so will I have bad issues with moisture if I insulate the roof directly?

Put radiant barrier sheets directly on the under side of the roof decking.

For the walls, I'd go Rockwool.
