My dad lost his left thumb and most of his left index finger due to a miter saw. Supposedly he hit a knot and the guard shattered and that is what cause all the damage he said there was shrapnel everywhere and he is lucky that is all that happened. Too bad because he was a damn good woodworker. He has

ouch
I did a similar thing to my left index on a table saw. Kick back got it while reaching around back of blade. Yep, being a DA. Also did the glass cut through wrist also except was a mirror and falling down stairs. Spaghetti Wrist or Full House injury is what it's called and easy to see why. Several others like most old do it yourselfers.
One of most unusual was a router bit that came undone. Happened on a router table with feather boards, while making bead and cove strips (16' +) for a canoe. This strip split longways and the bottom edge unknowingly ran under the bit. Pushing it up from the bottom. I looked up and it was levitating, almost hovering, and slowly coming right at my midsection. Only thought was to bat/deflect it away. Got real lucky as it only sliced the side of my ring finger. No telling how fast it was spinning or what else it might of done.

Few years ago I was ripping a 2x4 and right at the end I cut the pad off my R thumb.I was actually thinking I should be using a push stick right before I did it.Took forever for all the skin to grow back, like 2 months.
