but I got some cypress knees popping up. What's the best way to get rid of them w/o continuing to just cut them down with the mower?

This may be stupid but... ummmm... where are they coming from? A neighboring tree? Or do they just do that?

Yeah, from a neighbors tree that's about 30' away.

I would guess nothing. Just cut them with a reciprocating saw when they get high enough.

After a rain take an axe and cut on each side of the knee (there’s a root on each side) then pop it out. Very easy after you’ve done a few.

Unfortunately you will be fighting a losing battle as long as that tree is there. My old neighbor had a cypress tree. 20+ years of chopping those damn roots out of my yard, some as far as 50’ away

I’ve got so many just past my patio that I can’t even push the mower through that area.
I need to grade with a box blade, will the box tear these damn things out?
