Single stage units are fine. They can control humidity very well when "properly" sized. It is critical that single stage systems are not oversized as you will lose comfort during moderate weather. I wouldn't hesitate at all to have a single stage system.

oops wrong link. here is manual J people.. I used to do them when I installed HVAC systems back in the early 90's. Back then we used the actual manual and there was no internet. Its been so long since I have done one I couldn't help you much but the factors mentioned above all apply. It used to be even the color of the roof was a factor
