Dryer will turn on but no heat. what would cause the igniter to not get 120v (only getting 30)
igniter checked out
thermal fuse has continuity

Could be the centrifugal switch from the motor.
Could be one of the thermal limiters.
Could be the timer/ control.
Could be a bad igniter.
Most likely a bad thermal or bad motor centrifugal switch.

thank you
the igniter had 80 ohms so i figured that was good

80 ohms. Igniter is good.
Did your check continuity on all the thermals? Not sure what dryer you have on most gas they are behind the rear panel. Should have 4. A thermal fuse. Thermal cut off an operating thermostat and a high limit thermostat.
If those are good trace the voltage.
There should be a wiring schematic inside the control panel.
You should have 120v out put from timer to a centrifugal switch on motor. Most dryers won't heat unless it knows it's spinning.
You could bypass this if you want to fix it cheap but i wouldn't. The mirrors motors aren't much.
Sometimes timer contacts are bad. But you have a meter. You need to trace the voltage and find the open circuit.

What are the benefits of a gas dryer compared to electric?

Cheaper to operate and a bit easier on clothes.
