Garage Sheetrock Ceiling

I bought a 1980 built house about a year ago which has a finished garage with sheetrock in garage and ceiling but no A/C. The drywall texture is falling off in several places and the drywall is separating at the seams in some areas. I suspect just the humidity over time. I don’t have a ton in the attic, just a few holiday decorations.
What are my options here? Can I put some screws at the seams where the sheetrock is separating, scrape the entire ceiling, and then have someone come tape/retexture? Is it inevitable that this will happen again down the road or maybe this was a shoddy DIY job from many years back?

Sounds like it held up for 42 years.
What kind of texture?
Likely just retape, float, and some paint. A painter would be the one to do this.

I am currently in process of making this repair. In my case, the garage ceiling was never primed. The paint was added to texture and sprayed on to raw sheetrock. It lasted about 25 years but began falling down about a year ago.

you could easily pull it off and either leave it open or replace with plywood
