Anyone do this themselves? I'm currently paying a pest control company over $55 per month for the past few years.

The pest control seems simple enough. I can just do myself with Suspend/Bifen/Talstar/ Taurus etc.

As far as termites, all they've done was put bait stations around the perimeter of the house and come check it once a year.

They came out yesterday for 15 mins to check the bait stations and said "you're good". Seems like I'm getting ripped of for such revolving monthly cost and can do my own bait stations for much less than half the annual cost.

Any thoughts, suggestions or insight on the best DIY would be appreciated.

Unless they are actively putting down chemical each year, that sounds high.

When evaluating cost of termite contracts you have to consider whether damage repair insurance is included and whether the company has a history of actually honoring the insurance terms. Without that insurance the cost of treatment should be quiet low.

Order some "Suspend" on Amazon and spray around the foundation your house.

Its the same chemical bugman uses.

I’m more of a DIY guy, but treating for termites is not something I’d want to make a mistake on.

For reference, I’m under contract and pay $225 per year, which includes an annual inspection, termite damage insurance, and a re-treatment every 5th year.

There’s an option to pay less annually, but you have to pay for the retreatment every 5th year. It’s about $500.

If you want to break your contract and treat yourself, just be mindful that if you ever decide to go back under contract, the termite/pest company will likely require you to pay for a full treatment to start (even if you just did one a year or two ago and don’t need it).

You can 100% do a better job for cheaper. Buy good safety equipment and sprayer. DIY Pest Control has instructional documents/videos.

Been doing my own termite control for 15 years. Termidor SC. Follow the instructions on the label.

Taurus SC is the same exact things Termidor and both are pretty affordable.

1. Get some from Amazon or doityourselfpestcontrol.com. I recommend DIYpeatcontrol.

2. Get a five gallon bucket

3. Dig a trench about 6”-10” wide and deep around your house, 10’ at a time.

4. Follow trench treatment instructions on the label and mix appropriately in the bucket.

5. Pour mixture into the trench and let it sit for two minutes, then start filling it back in with the dirt, allowing for the added dirt to get completely submersed.

6. Dig the next 10’ of trench and repeat.

7. Sit back for literally the next ten years and rest easy knowing your home is treated.

This stuff is good for ten years and some claim even longer. I’d retreat every 7 years just to be sure though.

6 years ago I paid $400 for the initial treatment and pay $125 a year after that. They do not do that much but I like that thry assume responsibility if there is an infestation.
