live in Kenner by the lake. Tons of people have boats out here
I’m sure there are people who still get away with it, but Kenner is the only place in Jefferson parish that actually made it illegal to park a boat in your driveway

Born & raised in NOLA, currently live in Orleans parish. Do not move here.

If you like the suburbs with easy access to the city, Metairie is the easiest answer.
If you dont mind a lengthy commute, Mandeville/Covington.
More specific answers would require budget, schooling needs, preferences, etc.
If you have a substantial budget, Old Metairie is the #1 neighborhood in the metro area.

Old gretna. 5 minutes from downtown and #1 police dept and city services. Best deal around and good old houses near the river

Mandeville and St Charles will give you the best public school options but longer commutes if you work in the city.
Don’t buy a house in Orleans Parish. High taxes, crime, horrible streets and municipal services. The majority of areas in Orleans with any redeeming qualities (walk to restaurants and bars or shopping) aren’t really going to have ability to store a boat at your house.

I appreciate the info everyone. I will have to do some driving around when I get down there. Schools aren't that important to me right now and neither is nightlife etc. Sounds like parts of Metairie could be good if I got the right piece of property. And don't worry, I am not moving to LA to tell y'all how to do things! People do that where I grew up and it pisses me off. I look forward to meeting some good folks down y'all's way.

As far as metairie goes,
South of Metairie Rd in old Metairie if you are an OT baller. North of Metairie Rd if you want to pretend you are
The rest of Metairie, north of W Esplanade will be the best neighborhoods all the way down through the parish
