Anything to do besides duct cleaning/paint all walls and ceilings with oil based killz? House is all Sheetrock and tile/hardwood no carpet.
Is it necessary to clean the walls/ceilings before painting?
Also any recommendations for professionals in the NOLA area who do this would be appreciated.
TIA

Yes. They also make a cleaner to help rid that stank.

Clean with tsp wait crank up the ac clean again turn off ac wait clean again the walls will bleed nicotine with temp & humid changes then paint but it will always bleed crap out of the walls for years. But it wipes off easy if you apply quality paint.

I second TSP as a cleaner.
Then use oil based Kilz like you suggested. WATCH THOSE FUMES...THEY WILL BURN YOUR BRAIN CELLS.
Then a quality paint, you'll be fine!

the only way to get that smell out is literally wash the windows, walls, ceilings, and repaint everything, and any carpet and under padding has to go.
the air conditioning unit be cleaned but all duct work has to be replaced because a layer of airborne smokers tar will cover it all from circulating through the duct work.
it sounds like a lot of BS but its not a huge amount of work to hire someone to do that. the costs of replacing carpets and repainting can be factored into sale price

Duct cleaning, light wipe down of walls and ceilings with Simple Green solution, then two or three ozone generators and some time. Seriously, Kilz won't do a damned thing and neither will a few coats of even good latex paint over it, that smell will seep right back through. I've remediated a few rentals that had smokers and it's not something you can mask over.

In addition to the above you can run an ozone machine in there
