we are building a deck extension of a detached carport and then renovating the carport to be an outdoor kitchen/living space. the idea is to give our place a little bit of an "airbnb vacation" area, and to give us a shower and kitchen to use when we start a renovation of our house

heres the plans

started on the deck first, heres some pix in sequence. the hardest part so far was digging the damn column holes, i started this in mid-august and the clay is hard as stone.

joisted

plumbed

decked

at this point we decided we needed more room, so added a 6x10 extension. again, the holes were a bitch

next we will frame up the wet walls and rough in the shower and tub fixtures. still looking for tubs (cast iron, 6') if anyone sees any.

hot water will come from a 6gpm propane instant under the sink in the carport

thx

hopefully by the end of the year.
i also have to run new power to the carport to accomodate everything new (and old, it's currently a 30- yr old romex shitshow) so there's that

i'm as shocked as anyone that it is plumb, level and square

it is
his and hers for soaking

I don’t think I need to explain the opportunity that subsequently presents

I don’t know yet
the fixtures I got are all freeze proof so once I get everything hooked up I’m going to see how well the system drains out

if it holds water I probably will have to wrap the pex. I’ll test it before I close up the wet wall

As opposed to not building an entire deck and outdoor sex zone.

No dude, get your groove on. I’m just stating that it’s the weirdest outdoor construction combination I’ve ever heard of. Outdoor kitchen and dual tub setup, fully enclosed w/ no view. I feel like a hot tub would have been a better option if outdoor semi-submerged sex was the goal.

it’s not enclosed at at all and has a 280 deg view of the backyard. the kitchen is enclosed inside the carport building

next time I’ll consult you LOL

You should. I’ll call out a questionable design when I see one.

I understand the idea but it’s single use space that will have limited use due to weather and other outside circumstances. Whereas something like a hot tub or maybe a big outdoor seating area with fire pit that turns into a big bed for you to frick on or something. I don’t know. This just seems like some sort of cool idea that isn’t practical I the real world.

I thought you were putting in a hot tub but couldn't find a little hot tub shape on the designer

I get it though, when I do the deck around the pool I intend on having a full blown outdoor shower.

Nice work, I'd soak in it.

I don’t live in the real world poochie. I bend the world to my desires

we thought about it but honestly hot tubs are gross. You have to put chemicals in the water and they have maintenance issues that a bathtub doesn’t. All I’m after is a hot water soak and clean water each time

They also make mineral/salt powder you can add to simulate a hot spring soak

Oh, I knew you were an rugged individualist when I saw your white jeep truck with the top up. You live life outside the constraints of man.
