Building a house out of state

I am curious for those who have built another house in a different state -- and are meticulous about the quality of work being done.
How did you manage this? Project manager? Inspector? Or just weekly trips?
I ask. because I follow a guy on IG who is an inspector, and from the content that he posts, he seems very thorough. I am amazed at the videos he shares, and alarmingly how bad some of the framing that is being done on homes that are not inexpensive. This is before the fit and finish. The finishes, cosmetically, appear to be okay -- because you see them --- but the foundation in terms of the structural framing even worse -- that you don't necessarily see. It's like putting lipstick on a pig. And the number of Modelo beers he finds in the attic area is comical.
