Most bricks have a good seal from being fired and do not need treatment.

I use siloxane (which is awesome) on bricks that have a tendency to mold.

This application is for interior bricks, noticing grit on the floors daily, was told by brick mason that sealant woild slow deterioration and ash/grit on the floors. Would also provide waterproof to a small degree.

Old Chicago brick was very popular in the early 80's and is really attractive in it's authentic condition. But it is very, very porous.
I apply DRYLOK Siloxane 7 Brick & Masonry Penetrating Sealer
to the exterior of my home from top to bottom with a sprayer every 5 years of so. I also flood the chimney protruding from the roof.
