So I live in a subdivision that only allows a 6ft tall brick fence with a wrought iron gate in the front of your home, facing the street. On one side of my home, I have about 35 ft that will be fenced with brick, butting right up against my neighbors home. No problem there.

On the other side, I only have about 8 feet separating my home from my other neighbors brick fence. Theoretically I'd just put 2 columns and an iron fence on that side. However, there is a significant grade difference between our homes. Mine is approximately 6" or so higher than his property. So if I build a 6ft tall fence, I'm worried it will look goofy due to being taller than my neighbors. Also, the bottom of the iron fence, more than likely, wouldn't be able to open fully due to the grading issue.

Any ideas or thoughts on ways to make that side not look ridiculous? It's not cheap so I want to make sure it looks ok, but I'm out of ideas.

Are you going for privacy in the back?

If so the wrought iron provides nothing that way without an additional hedge.

What are they quoting a square foot for 6’ brick? I just redid my pool fence and about choked on some of the quotes.

This is a non-issue as all you would need to do is put the hinge on the opposite side to resolve this.

Hinge always goes on the low side. That way when it opens, you have a gap at the bottom between the fence and ground rather than it being pinched.

I haven't gotten a price quote for the small side, as I'm unsure of exactly what the plan is there.

But my neighbor paid 4250 for 17' with a 4' gap for the gate as well as 3 columns.

Also, not worried about the privacy aspect. There's a small pond behind the house so I think we are just trying to keep as much of the back as "open" as possible.

I think I understand what you're saying. I guess I have to physically see it in order to get it.
