Have a yard that was recently 95% covered with dirt. The yard was a mix of Bermuda and St Aug before, but mostly St Aug. Bermuda fertilizer has already been thrown down on the dirt.

What's the steps to not allowing the St Aug to take over once the Bermuda starts coming through the dirt?

You shouldn't use MSMA, but if MSMA were legal to use on residential lawns, it would kill it.

Bermuda and weeds are going to be the first thing to grow. If you are just wanting common bermuda it will seed itself. St Aug only spreads vegetatively so you can just pull the runners if they start traveling from the part of your yard that has it.

If you keep the grass cut short (1.5” or lower) Bermuda will win.

If you cut the grass at 4” St Augustine will probably win.

Follow the Bermuda Bible, cut the grass short and you’ll be on the right track.

How much shade does the yard get?

For bermuda, cut low and cut often.

The parts of the ground that weren't covered by dirt have mainly St Aug. It seems the St Aug is slowly starting to make its way into the outer edges of where the dirt was. I think the fertilizing just happened. That's why I was assuming the St Aug would just take over, faster than the planted Bermuda would grow.
