This is about the time I'd be spreading Scotts with Halts for crabgrass and spraying something with 2,4D but with that crazy ice storm a few weeks ago, I think things got pushed back maybe?

I've got 1/2 acre of St Aug. Clay soil. Front yard is pretty great normally. The backyard started out at about 1/2 st aug 1/2 weeds. Over the last few years it's now more like 75% st aug, 25% weeds with the weeds mostly being on the edges of the yard. I'm hoping to eventually eradicate most of the weeds(crabgrass, wild onions, spurge, random crap).

I did the Cleg's winter Weed spray last week only in the backyard as many weeds popped up after the snow melted.

Is it too early for Pre-emergent now? What should I use? Ok for 2,4D? Any suggestions?

I sprayed some Spectracide last week, it’s definitely doing some damage to my clover and weeds after a week.

That cold snap didn’t push anything back. Prodiamine is going to be your best bet for a spring pre em. 24d is ok to use.

So don't use Halts? The lawn and garden guru here in Texas suggests Halts, Dimension, or Balan granules along with gallery or 2,4d spray.

Will Prodiamine be better than Halts granules? If so, can I buy at Home Depot?

If I use Prodiamine do I even need 2,4d?

Halts used to be prodiamine. Now it is pendimethalin and that isn't as good as prodiamine. Dimension is good as well but prodiamine lasts a little longer. Dimension will kill young crabgrass though. I'm not sure if they have it at Home Depot but a Site One would. Yes, prodiamine is a pre em only and you'll still need a post em.

Did literally nothing for my winter weeds. Big bummer.

Prodiamine this week for me and then another 8-10 weeks later.

If it doesn't work this year, I'm giving up and sodding next year.
