Balcony columns and railing wood rot - BR

I have some wood rot at the base of some exterior balcony columns and some rotted railing I need to repair/replace. Looking for recs in the BR area

My guess is that the entire balcony needs to be replaced.

Are the rotting columns solid wood or boxes warped around a metal pole? In the latter case, just have a carpenter rebuild the bottom portion and correct any direct ground contact. In the former case you can cut off the rotted section if not too large and replace it with a concrete pedestal. Or, get rid of wood and use either structural aluminum or fiberglass columns. I did the latter 25 years ago, and the columns are still rock solid and looking good.

We had the porch and balcony at the Rectory for St. Michael in Convent redone by Euroquality Improvements and they did a great job.
