Do it. I’ve been to a few houses with lap pools and they get more use than people expect.

That’s my line of thinking as well. I am not interested in a lounging pool and my kids aren’t at the age where toys and inflatables would be the main use. It would be for them to train and for the wife and I to exercise. It would get another 4-6 years of training use before it would just be the wife and I. It would have a shallow lounge pad off to the side with the steps. I’ll get prices anyway never hurts to inquire. They currently swim multiple kids to a lane at practice anyway staggering starts.

Hell if I knew enough year round intrest could be had I would entertain doing a full blown six lane pool just not sure I could pull enough interest to turn a profit.

Anything bigger than a lane or two would need to pay itself back

If you decide to go this route, I would highly recommend talking to your insurance agent before you start construction on it. Homeowners insurance companies don't like home based businesses that involve clients coming onto your residential property because of liability risks.

By charging others to train in your pool, you'd essentially be running a business on the property. So you'd be at risk of your homeowners insurance company dropping you if and when they find out about it or they could deny a claim if someone else got hurt there. You would likely need business insurance to protect you but having your residence and hypothetical business all as the same location complicates it.

Its one thing to let your kid's swimming teammates train there at no cost, but it becomes a whole different ballgame if you start charging for it.

Oh that option wouldn’t be at my residence it would be a separate entity and probably bring in an investor or two so as not to deplete my own cash too bad.

True and you would need a rider to cover liability. There is an Airbnb type company now where people rent their pools for a day to other people.

My pool is 50 feet long in the back. I love it. Kids and wife can do whatever they want in the middle, I swim in the back.
