love these relatable, easy-to-replicate projects such as

"my friend bought a sawmill last fall"

"Fiber-optic star ceiling in my daughter's nursery, using a map of the sky on her due date as a template"

or

"I like LEDs, so I put 540 of them on a ball to bring to music festivals. Presenting SOL CRUSHER, the culmination of 6 months of my free time."

this stuff is all cool and shite, but can anyone recommend a forum for someone who doesn't have a masters in electrical engineering or a friend with a saw mill or a 64" wood plane?

If it’s dummies you want you are in the right place now.

Some people just have too much time.

What are you trying to learn how to do?

Lumberjocks is a good site, with a pretty wide range of skill levels represented.
