I believe one of you have posted about them on a generator related question, but I did come across this on my own. The way DSLD designed my house, I do not have a main breaker to shut off the entire house. I want to be able to have my portable generator run my entire home, and someone recommended this. Anyone have any good or bad experiences before I put $1000 into it?

I'm fighting the same issue you are. I believe it is still possible, but it may no longer be a DIY project, like it would be with a mechanical interlock. I'm thinking about having an electrician come out and look.

I'm thinking it will take the addition of another panel to house the breakers that are currently on the meter, and use the meter panel and install a "Main" breaker which then distributes to the new panel with the "Inside Panel, "AC", and "Range Breakers".

Then yes, we are fighting the exact same battle lol. Let me know what you solve and I’ll let you know what I solve!

You have to have some sort of main disconnect. You might have a disconnect by the meter, you could replace that with a manual transfer switch or a panel.

Also, you might be able to add a main breaker to your panel. Some of the loadcenters have that capability.

Id get an electrician out to look and give you a quote. There are a couple ways to do this depending on what you want and how much you want to spend.
