So you have sewer gas back feeding into your ice maker? Ice makers have indirect connections to prevent contamination. If you don't have an air gap and that sewer line ever backs up you'll be throwing that ice maker to the curb with a biohazard sticker (hopefully before anyone grabs ice)

Even with a check valve installed in line?

He doesn't know what he is talking about with the ice makers, no offense to that guy.

The ice makers are gravity fed (usually) down from the bin to a drain line that is then gravity fed into often times an open drain (but not always). You would almost always have a P trap at this point. But needless to say P traps (air gaps) don't do shite for sewer line back ups plenty often. You can have sewer lines back up into your tubs, toilets, etc that have P traps on them.

Question while we are talking abt ice machines. I have an under the counter ice machine in our kitchen islands. The set of drawers (junk drawer) directly to the left are always super warm. What is putting off that heat or discharging from the ice machine to make this happen?

I’ve done a lot of outdoor kitchens for people. The ice maker is always a regret. Constantly broken

They usually do not get maintained. I always tell people just buy bags of ice and come out ahead
