AC dripping

About 7 months ago we bought an older home (70’s) and completely remodeled it. I noticed while changing filters that there was an ice chest with no lid in the dead space between filter and the unit. Didn’t think much about it since there has been alot of weird and quirky things during our remodel.
But now that it’s getting hot, I’ve noticed a dripping sound coming behind my filter. Open it up and sure enough water is dripping into the ice chest. It was nearly full so I emptied it out and put it back where it was. I haven’t called an hvac yet, but why is it doing that?
It never did it in the spring… just now that it’s actually hot and the AC is running more often.
Anyone know what’s going on?

Does your system not have a drip pan with plumbing for the runoff?

I assume there is some ductwork in that space connecting the filter and the unit. What is that ductwork made of?

Just got off the phone with a buddy with hvac knowledge and he said my drain is probably clogged

Should be vent pipe around the pan. Take a wet dry vac and reverse it and blow it out. The get some bleach and pour 2-3 cups to finish cleaning it out.
