Why do older threads with pics no longer show up?

A while back TD had some complications with copyrighted photos being left up on this site.
It was a total shakedown/scam by this photo company who was suing as many websites as they could for having their copyrighted photos on these various websites, including TD. Nothing TD could have done about it since TD isn’t the ones posting, but that’s another story.
Not sure the outcome of that mess, but as protection against copyrighted photos being left up on the site... after a certain amount of time they just become links.

I didn’t know that. I just assumed it was cheaper/took up less storage to convert them to links at some point. Interesting.
