Is there a legitimate appeals process for this?
Honest question. I don't want to do it if it really puts a strain on the site, or there is some reason for not allowing it that I'm unaware of. I just can't tell that there is one, and if I can find a way to address the admins concerns about it, I'd be glad to try.

You can always email Chicken or state your case here.
The decision for the SECR IM thread was made at the time as a concession to the dynamic of that board as a new and evolving community. I don't think the same circumstances exist in the PT.
There also is the tricky question of where to draw the line on non-OT IM threads. No other board has an officially sanctioned nightly chat thread.
