I've been making this suggestion since 2006 or so and I'm not going to give up hope!
I think placing an (OP) next to the name of the originator of a thread anytime they reply in their own thread would be a great idea. You can get pages deep in a thread and forget who started the thread and who the discussion is revolving around forcing you to back out then find your place again.
